Release Notes

This is VSB version 4.0. It adds support for snapshots on VMware® VSphere™ 4 and thin provisioning.
Please read the "Virtual Solution Box 4 Installation and Upgrade Guide" carefully before you install.

Supported Platforms

• VMware® VI3 (ESX 3.x).
• VMware® VSphere™ 4 (ESX 4.0).
• VMware® ESXi is not supported.
• VMware® ESX 2.x is not supported.
  Please download VSB 3.5-105 if you still have VMware® ESX 2.x hosts.

• Fixed bug where backup job crashed when creating snapshot. This happened when the job waited for a lock.

Known Issues for Version 4.0-205 and 4.0-208

• Virtual hardware version of the virtual appliance is still 4, not the new version 7.
  Do not upgrade to virtual HW version 7 and do not upgrade the VMware tools yet.
  We will provide an upgrade to the latest tools and latest virtual HW in a later version.
• We will provide an updated documentation in a later version.
• For ESX 4 hosts: NetApp Filer Snapshots do not work with CIFS targets yet, VSB will make an ESX snapshot prior to backup instead.

Full install

Get the following file to do a full clean install of Virtual Solution Box, or the Small Business Edition. To install, unzip the file to a temporary directory on your Windows workstation and run "setup.exe".

After the virtual machine runs, login via web browser to the VSB and login as user "admin", password is "secret".

Download the OVA (Open Virtual Appliance) format.
This installation method is recommended if VSB is installed on a VMware® Vsphere™ 4 host.

Update

Get the following file to perform an update from version 3.0 or later to the latest version.

• Do a backup of both disks of your VSB.
• Choose Settings>Advanced>Update, upload following file to VSB and choose Update Software.
• VSB will reboot after the update.
• Important: you will have to update the VSB client of each host that is connected to your VSB.
  Click on each host for details.
