Release notes

This is VSB version 3.5.  It adds support for snapshots on Netapp® filers. Snapshots on Netapp® filers are used instead of virtual machine snapshots on ESX servers. 

Supported platforms

• VSB 3.5 supports ESX 3.x.
• ESXi is not supported.
• vSphere is not supported
  
• ESX 2.x is supported until VSB version 3.5-105.
  Installing any version 3.5 on an ESX 2.x host using the installer is not supported,
  please install Version 3.0 instead (ask us for it) and use the update package to upgrade VSB to version 3.5-105 .

• Improvement: Old Netapp snapshots are deleted each night at 2:00 am. If you run a snapmirror, make sure, that the snapmirror schedule is suspended at 2:00 am.

• Improvement: VMotion and DRS is inhibited on the host while backups are running. This option can be configured on a per-host basis. This solves the problem that a VM gets migrated while it is backed up. VMotion will timeout during a backup job.  
• Compatibility: This version was tested with ESX 3.5 and VirtualCenter 2.5.

Full install

Get the following file to do a full clean install of Virtual Solution Box, or the Small Business Edition. To install, unzip the file to a temporary directory on your Windows workstation and run "setup.exe".

After the virtual machine runs, login via web browser to the VSB and login as user "admin", password is "secret".

Update

Get the following file to perform an update from version 1.0 or later to the latest version.

• Do a backup of both disks of your VSB.
• Choose Settings>Advanced>Update, upload following file to VSB and choose Update Software.
• VSB will reboot after the update.
• Important: you will have to update the VSB client of each host that is connected to your VSB. Klick on each host for details.
